Bearing of propeller shafts(e.g. four wheel drives on tractors) are very different to those of other bearings. The reason for this is the stress on the bearing. The most usual kind of movement in the bearing is oscillation – a rotating movement that, depending on whether it is a front or back wheel drive, will move in different directions. Furthermore, there is the consideration that when driving a tractor at an angle (e.g. when ploughing) one side of the axle will contain very little oil while the opposite side is full, so that there is high external stress on the gasket.
Wrapped bushings made of Wieland S31 or machined bushings made of Wieland S40 are suitable for the bearing of universal joints. A good constructive design is important and we would be happy to assist you in this.
