Steel piston and connecting rod

  • Contrary to aluminium pistons, it is in the steel piston and in the connecting rod where the bushing is a true bearing element.
  • For extreme loads, Wieland U17 are used.
    For medium loads, also Wieland SB8 can be used.
  • For connecting-rod bushings Wieland offers to do a PC calculation for the design.

  • Excellent for steel pistons
  • Dynamic load resistance over 150 MPa ( see diagram )
  • Excellent corrosion resistance ( see diagram )
  • Wrought alloy (important: no casting), which is hot and cold formed
  • Coefficient of expansion of U17 (20°-300°C) 16,6 x 10-6 x K-1
  • Coefficient of steel (20°-300°C) approx. 12 x 10-6 x K-1

Wieland-L66 for wrapped bushings (PDF, 12 KB)

  • Best press fit of all materials (press-out force equal or higher than injecting force)
  • Load resistance

  • Excellent corrosion resistance

  • Alloy is wrought alloys
  • Coefficient of expansion L66 (20°-300°C) 18 x 10-6 x K-1

  • Can also be successfully used for steel pistons and connecting rods if the interference fit of the bushing is correctly designed
  • Outstanding oil corrosion resistance
  • Wrought alloy (important: no casting) which is hot and cold formed
  • Dynamic load resistance up to 150 MPa
  • Coefficient of expansion of SB8 (20°-300°C) 19,2 x 10-6 x K-1
  • Coefficient of expansion of aluminium alloy (20°-300°C)
