What do a tailor who liked to experiment, a small, imaginative sparrow with a straw and the highest church tower in the world have in common? All three come from the same city: from Ulm, the gateway to Upper Swabia at the confluence of the Danube, Iller and Blau at the foot of the Swabian Jura. And these are only a small part of what there is to discover!
Ulm has over 120,000 inhabitants considered with Neu-Ulm there are more than 173,000 inhabitants. The Danube separates Ulm from Neu-Ulm as well as the federal states Baden-Wuerttemberg from Bavaria. The former Royal Palace has become a beautiful and vibrant city with excellent infrastructure and a high recreational value.
Through its famous industrial products and significant research results of its University and science city, Ulm has a good name worldwide for innovation. The good and varied educational facilities in the city attracts thousands of students from around the world every year.
Ulm is an attractive location in Germany not least because of its convenient location: Ulm is in the midst of a well-developed rail network and highways, Stuttgart Airport is only 50 minutes drive and Munich International Airport takes only 1.5 hours to reach. Moreover, the major A7 and A8 highways cross at Ulm.
In Ulm, there is a wide range of art and culture just to name a few: the Ulmer Minster, the Museum of Bread Art, the Weishaupt gallery, the fishermen's quarter, the Art path and the Botanical Garden. A multitude of sports is also available so physical activity isn’t forgotten.
Among the cultural highlights is “Oath Monday”. This Ulmer Festival takes place in memory of the first constitution of the city, drawn up in 1397. After the renewal of the oath in the morning, in the afternoon there is a colourful procession on the Danube, called "the Nabada", where hundreds of swimmers and inventive water crafts accompany original down the river. Every four years courageous combatants fight against each other in water battles, the fishermen stinging.
