Technical comparison

The most important technical properties for components used in electrical engineering are:

  • Electrical conductivity (which is proportional to the thermal conductivity)
  • Yield strength Rp0.2 while still allowing a sharp-edged 90° bend
  • Resistance to relaxation

Graph

The graph plots the most important materials for spring components used in electrical engineering, showing their electrical conductivity and a yield strength range Rp0.2 of approx. 80 MPa. This range is selected so that sharp-edged 90° bends in the direction indicated are still possible with a full specimen width and a strip thickness of at most 0.5 mm. Even higher bending requirements, such as for example those imposed by folding or by a thicker strip, require a reduction in the yield strength. Higher values (yield strengths) are possible if the bending radii are increased.

Those alloys which have a particularly good resistance to relaxation (up to 3000 h at 150°C) are denoted by *, and those with an unsatisfactory resistance to relaxation (below 100°C) are marked by -.
