Wieland produces strip, sheets and round blanks in copper and copper alloys from which our customers manufacture components and products used in various sectors, including:

Besides strip made of copper and standard alloys such as brass and bronze, we supply strip in high-performance alloys which are characterised by an advantageous combination of strength, electrical conductivity, formability and temperature resistance.

Our strip is available both bare and tin plated.

It is produced on state-of-the-art equipment and machinery which ensure a very high product quality.

  • Products and delivery formats

    Strip in coils and drums

    Coils are the simplest and most common delivery format for strip. Longer strand lengths are traverse-wound into coils which are welded together using the WIG process. An alternative to this is MULTICOIL strip (stacked and joined coils) which can be easily decoiled on horizontal rotary tables. The different delivery formats enable you to process our strip on very different production equipment. Please contact us so that we can support you with the selection of the delivery format that suits you best!

    With Wieland FLEXIDRUM we offer the possibility of using returnable drums, thus reducing the amount of waste.

    Contour milled strip

    Contour-milled strip is a special product used for the manufacture of both power transistors and special connectors. This type of strip has different thicknesses over the strip width making an advantageous design of electrical and electronic components possible and saving or simplifying processing steps.

    Contour-milled strip is milled in longitudinal direction and offers a variety of cross-sections.

    ZZZIP strip

    ZZZIP strip is pre-notched strip. Such flexible flat cables are used, for example, in automotive engineering (clock springs, headliner cables, etc.) as well as in data technology. They simplify the manufacture of flexible, flat multi-conductor cables considerably. ZZZIP strip is pre-notched according to customer requirements. Immediately before laminating, the pre-notched strip is separated into individual leads and directly laminated by the customer.   • Surfaces and coatings

    Depending on customer requirements, our products are manufactured bare or with factory-applied coating. Moreover, rolled products can be supplied dry or oiled. To improve oxidation resistance they undergo standard passivation.

    The surface quality is largely determined by roughness. We offer the following standard roughness values:

    For applications in the visual range with high requirements in terms of optical appearance of the final products, different special qualities are available which are, however, limited to certain ranges of dimensions:

    • electrolytically polishable
    • etchable
    • bright as rolled
    • mirror bright rolled
    • free of Luder lines

    Strip and sheet with protective coating

    To protect the surfaces against mechanical damage during further processing, it is possible to provide strip and sheet with a protective PE foil. The foil adheres to the strip through an acrylic adhesive and can be removed after processing.

    Strip, sheet and cut-to-length strip are used in the manufacture of decorative metal goods to prevent mechanical damage.

    Tin-plated strip

    In electrical and electronic application, contact resistance of electrical contacts plays a decisive role. The formation of oxide layers can affect the contact resistance or even lead to the failure of connectors. Typically, at least the contact areas are coated. The most common coatings are made of tin or tin-containing alloys. Our strip is hot-dip tinned on state-of-the art equipment. Depending on customer requirements, different tin plating versions can be produced.

    We also offer fully and selectively tin-plated or nickel-plated strip which you will receive directly from us, with the plating having been done by external partner companies. Please contact us if you have appropriate requirements.

    Connectors are indispensable components for the connection of different electrical and electronic components and systems. The Rolled Products Division supplies strip in a variety of alloys, strengths, dimensions and surface qualities meeting almost all customer requirements.

    Press-fit pins

    Press-fit pins are increasingly being used for the production of electrical connections to circuit boards or in electrical or electronic applications. The press-fit technology enables the manufacture of very reliable and durable electrical connections. Besides the frequently used bronze, high-performance alloys are increasingly being specified, particularly if high conductivity in combination with high temperature resistance are required.

    Semiconductor components

    Semiconductor components comprise very small integrated circuits through to power electronics components for the control of locomotives and other power applications. The Rolled Products Division offers strip in different alloys, meeting the highest standards in terms of surface quality, for example regarding bondability.

    Metal goods often have to meet particularly high requirements regarding surface quality or processing properties. Common application examples include:

    Architectural sheets

    Architectural sheets are used for both facades and interiors. Wieland offers sheets made of alloys such as brass or bronze. By using special sheet surface finishes (brushed or polished) it is possible to realise particularly durable facades and interior panels providing buildings with an unique flair. Particularly impressive objects are found in sacred buildings and ornamental structures.
