In order to simplify the assembly of pneumatic and hydraulic circuits, plug couplings are used instead of screw fittings. Pneumatics are usually sealed with O-rings. For hydraulic application at high pressure the sealing is achieved by using cutting rings.
Fittings are either made out of sections and rods or through the press forging of hot forging rods with a forging die during a subsequent metal cutting process. The alloy CuZn40Pb2 (Wieland-Z31 for sections and Wieland-Z38 for hot forming) has proven to be successful when used in these applications.
A central requirement for such systems is absolute tightness which is largely ensured by extruded wrought copper structures rather than the use of cast parts. Also at low temperatures, brasses have high mechanical strength and good ductility. Therefore they are very well suited to these fields of application. In addition, brasses show excellent corrosion resistance (no corrosion fatigue).
Fittings made of precisely drawn sections provide the benefits of higher mechanical strength and efficient material yield. In order to avoid the risk of stress corrosion, thermal stress-relieving annealing is recommended for drawn sections.
We are able to produce almost any kind of cross-sectional shapes for these applications. Our application engineers will be happy to advise you.
